Background
Today I would like to kickoff the launch of my new website with a short explanation on how it was created.
In the past I have run several versions of my personal website on the domain name https://jeroenmiesfotografie.nl. Keeping any site up to date takes quite some effort for every website admin, but when moving my wifes blog to a new hosting provider I never took the time to do the same for my own website. Hence it was taken offline.
But during the holidays I decided it was time to rebuild my site from scratch and here you see the initial result.
Theme or native
My first idea was to look for a nice (paid or free) theme to create the portfolio website. But it took quite some time to find something I immediately liked. Then I stumbled on a Youtube series Build a Professional Website with WordPress Gutenberg Block and (FSE) 2025 WordPress Theme by Riad Mahmud and that changed my approach.
After watching the entire series, while following along, I managed to create a nice looking website layout that fits all my initial needs.
Template builder
The course consists of many linked videos and focuses on building all necessary templates to create a unique look-and-feel.
Logo
For the new website I also wanted to change my old color scheme and have a new logo. So I asked Jan to create a new concept logo. Jan is a talented designer and my youngest sons girlfriend. She created two concepts for the logo and the one you see here is the chosen design. And I like it a lot.
Not everything is perfectly in order when writing this blog post but its a good start and will always be a work in progress I suppose.
